Fact or Fiction – Do Quick Fix Diets Really Work
Quick Fix Diets or Crash Diets dont work in the long term. Yes you will shed pounds counting calories or as Beyonce did recently only drinking lemonade. But we all know that once we start eating again we will put the pounds back on. If you have dieted over the years you will see this familiar pattern. Part of the key to successful dieting is to understand why these quick fix diets on there own are not the answer.
The reason why quick fix diets dont work is our bodies are designed to survive during times of starvation. If you suddenly decide to reduce your calorie intake by either just drinking lemonade or eating rice cakes your metablolic rate will be lowered in order to preserve the fat still present. This enables your body to survive on less. This would be great if you were living during the ice age but in todays society you will probably (if your anything like me) be eating cakes again next week. The important thing to remember is every time you return to “normal” eating patterns your body requires less food to keep you going and will really hang onto the fat stores it already has.
A point to remember before embarking on these diets is that it will be mainly water you are losing, not fat. If you are prone to bloating, I sure am, then this is what you will loose first. You may think you have lost some weight but once you eat other foods this will soon return. So disheartening.
My advice and the way I lost weight following the birth of my son was to follow quick fix diets for a few days to give me a boost. I then replaced this with a healthy eating plan and exercise, yes exercise.
Then introduce a healthy eating plan with lots of exercise. The exercise will increase your metabolic rate and ensure your body doesnt hold onto any excess pounds after the quick fix diets.
