Just as a basketball coach requires a high level of experience in basketball, so too does a life coach need a certain level of life experience. Why would a person hire a life coach? A life coach is someone that is hired to help individuals identify and realize personal goals, and that personally is likely to have experienced a certain level of achievement in his or her life, thus better able to relate to and “coach” the person being coached. Usually in a coaching program, there is a strong leadership-building component, an understanding of the psychology of a person, an evaluation of values, and some type of goal-setting. A life coach may use processes of inquiry and discussion to question perspectives, hold an individual accountable, and advance and implement strategies for achieving goals.
