Citronella Spray Collars, are a viable option for more and more pet owners these days. Prior to your purchase of a Citronella Dog Collar, it is essential for you to research any questions you might have about how they work.

This article aims to give you the basic knowledge you need to know.

* How will a Citronella Dog Bark Collar help to stop my dog from barking

Citronella is scientifically proven to be safe and effective in halting incessant dog barking. The essential oil extracted from the plant’s leaves and stems give off a pungent scent that is not very noticeable to humans but very repulsive to animals and insects.

* How does a Citronella Collar work exactly?

Each time your dog barks, a tiny microphone built into the collar will activate the spray of a Citronella oil mist. Some of these collars have a remote control so you can activate the spray when the dog misbehaves in different ways.

* How will a Citronella No Bark Dog Collar treat my problem dog to stop him barking?

The Citronella Dog Collar will adjust negative dog behavior by giving the dog offensive stimulation on four sensory levels each time the dog behaves poorly. When the dog barks, the dog can hear the spray go off and will the wet spray on his face. He will be able to see the spray and smell the unpleasant odor. If used consistently, this will alter the dog’s bad habits.

* Why choose a Citronella No Bark Dog Collar?

Citronella Anti Bark Collars are the easiest to use, and safe for the dog and the environment, while other collars can be cruel and easily malfunction.

The Citronella Anti Bark Dog Collar is simply the most humane method to turn around your dog’s negative behavior and incessant barking. It is available online as well as in your local supply pet store.

When a dog is given Crate training you need not worry about its age till it reaches the elderly stage. Though training the dog during the puppy hood is not the only option. The age is not a factor to crate a dog; also all dogs cannot be crated.

It might not be a right age to handle an older dog in confined space; if taken the same condition in your situation you would need to gate the baby in the kitchen corner.

During the petting of a fully grown dog, they should not be left there for a long time as they are older and they may tend to suffer from joint pains and rigidness, while they also do not have the same amount of control as they had when they were young. Training depends on the ways followed. First one can let the dog get used in staying in a spacious pet with the help of food and toys as incentives.

With constant supervision, the dog is to be made used to the confined space for longer hours. Once we are satisfied with his level of comfort we can close the door, still staying inside, just to make him feel comfortable.

In cases of accidents, clean up and go ahead. If an old dog is in the middle of having an accident, it should be taken to the potty area. It should not be scared or bewildered along the process.

The older dogs can have numerous medical issues that can effect their bladder and bowels as they may constantly have accidents, then you may need to take them to the vet during the house training. You need to take extra care, love, understanding and patience to the older dogs which are being trained. These dogs may need your extra attention regularly.

All in all, when pet training, patience, understanding are mandatory no matter what age your dog is but older dogs tend to require that much more. Whatever age a dog is, it may want to make one happy but it gets even difficult with an older dog.

Make sure to show your dog love and that they make you happy whatever the case.

by Craig Clemins

Perhaps the most important thing your dog ever needs to understand is that you are the boss, you are the Alpha Dog. When raising your dog it is very easy to be weak in an effort to show love and affection – this commonly leads to your dog believing that he is the master in your relationship. If this is the case in your relationship – you need to correct the social standing immediately.

Before getting started let me just clarify that being the Alpha Dog has nothing to do with handing out harsh punishments. What it requires is a set of consistent limits and guidelines. The following tips will help you establish and maintain the position as the “Alpha Dog” of the household.

Tip 1 – Always walk through doorways first.

This is an incredibly simple but powerful way of showing your dog that you have the right of passage. Dog’s can’t really understand spoken language but they can understand body language very well, this gives a clear message that you are more important than the dog.

Tip 2 – Always eat before your dog.

In the wild Alpha Dogs always eat first. It’s important that you do the same. Make sure that you and your family eat before your dog.

Tip 3 – Respond immediately to disobedience.

Anytime your dog does something that is clearly unacceptable, you must take quick and responsive action. Lets say for example that your dog steals food from your plate. Immediately make a loud noise by clapping and then take your dog by the snout and say “Bad Dog” in a firm voice. After this, make sure you don’t give your dog any attention whatsoever for a full 20 minutes.

Tip 4 – Don’t walk around your dog – make your dog move for you.

This is a very effective way to show your dog that you are the leader. If you ever find your dog in your path, make it move – don’t walk around the dog. This sounds a bit extreme but it is a measure that must be taken. This is exactly what an Alpha Dog would do if it was in your situation.

Tip 5 – Don’t sleep with your dog.

Your dog should never sleep on your bed. This puts your dog on the same level as you socially and can encourage your dog to believe it is superior to you. Always make your dog sleep on the floor to ensure you are held in respect.

Following the 5 tips mentioned above will guarantee your place as the Alpha Dog. This means your dog will behave better and cause less problems. Everyone (including your dog) will be happier knowing the correct social standing.

When selecting a healthy dog diet it can frequently be difficult and confusing, that is if you let it be. The packaging and marketing of the products you wish to purchase will frequently blur your perception of it. Your dogs diet is the easiest and best means to keep your pet in great health and happy for the many years you will have together. It is advisable for you to find a diet that will provide all the needed nutrients that are required for your pet to thrive rather than merely survive.

So here are some basic guidelines for you to follow when you are choosing the food for your dogs diet. you should know that each dog is different and what is the satisfactory diet for your neighbors dog may not be exactly what your pet needs.

The first step when considering your dogs diet, is to talk to your veterinary. This trusted person has your pets interest at heart, just like you. Your vets recommendations can steer you in the right direction.

Find a reputable brand of dog food to be the main part of your dogs diet. It is not impossible to stumble across a high quality dog food that you have never heard of, but a well known and prominent manufacturer furnishes an amount of safety and security about the decision to give your dog a healthy diet. Recognized and reputable dog food manufacturers take the time to research the matter of animal nutrition. Allow your pet to benefit from the company’s wealth of information rather than going it alone.

What you should do is choose a dog food that is appropriate for your pets age. With a aging that is showing signs of aging, then it is better to consider a dog diet that is especially produced for elderly dogs. On the other hand pups have different nutritional needs than adult dogs. You will need to find a variety of food that meets your dogs needs. Even the breed and size of your pet will make a difference in the type of diet you should feed it. Diets produced specifically for small dogs and large breeds are readily available. You will need to keep this in mind when selecting your dogs diet.

The activity level and weight are the other elements for you to consider when making the decision of what to feed your dog. When you make up one’s mind on a diet for your dog, pay attention to the helping size. Obesity is a serious problem in pets. It can result to hip trouble and take years off your pets life.

Table scraps are unquestionably not a healthy diet. Your dogs diet should consist of a high quality food particularly designed to meet your pets dietary needs.

Only supplement a high quality diet when recommended by your vet. If you give your pet too many supplementations in your dogs diet, then this can lead to poor of health.

Always consult your vet for advice on what to feed your dog. Your dogs diet will fire his health, so choose your dogs diet wisely. Select a brand of food that is reputable and suited to your dog. Finding the right diet for your pet will promote good health and allow your dog to thrive.

People love to have collections of Labrador pictures and there are a variety of places you can go to find Labrador pictures whether you are looking for action photos or just good quality collection. Many places offer a variety of pictures while others are very specific to their picture content and it all depends, of course, on where you look. Take the time to check out all of the Labrador picture sources and see which ones work out best for you. You may even find something you were not looking for that you were happy to find.

Professional photographers love to create over sized picture books of detailed and high definition pictures of the Labrador breed. The dog lends itself to such beautiful markings that you cannot help but be impressed with the photo quality and the hard work that goes into a collection like this. Labradors are also very obedient dogs so they can get themselves into poses and situations that make for some great pictures as well.

The Internet is filled with websites that contain Labrador pictures and one type of site is the compilation website or message board. On a compilation website people are allowed to post pictures of their Labrador for the world to see in various poses and situations.

The pictures can be personal pets, or maybe even beautiful show dog pictures, or sometimes you can even catch the athletic police dogs in pictures on these sites as well. If you are looking for a wide variety of Labrador pictures then you should check out one of these compilation sites.

If you prefer to see more pictures of a specific Labrador then many owners host their own websites where they will keep daily diaries and pictures of their dog for the world to see. These sites are great if you want to learn about the Labrador in its home environment and what it takes to keep a Labrador dog healthy and happy. You can also learn how the Labrador interacts with people from a website like this.

There is a lot to be learned from checking in on a Labrador’s daily activities. When a breeder puts together a website and uploads Labrador pictures to it, the breeder only wants to show the best pictures that they can so that it reflects positively on their business.

You also get to see quality pictures of all of the different breeds of the Labrador as well and this can be both educational and interesting. If you need to see a variety of Labrador types in the same place then take the time to check out a breeder’s website.

There are so many places to see Labrador pictures that you could literally spend hours just going through them and still not see all that there is to see. Don’t forget to also check out the new video websites such as Youtube as well because there are a lot of interesting Labrador videos out there that can give you an even better idea of the capabilities of the Labrador breed and what you can expect from it.

So exactly how do you choose the right garden bird feeder for you? What’s the first thing you need to do and is the choice of bird feeder truly an important one? Well, the truth is that in the beginning it’s probably not. The choice of your first bird feeder can be simple and rudimentary – you don’t really need anything too fancy – and something with a low price tag might suit you even better, at least until you make up your mind as to what you really want from your bird feeder.

Then again, if you’ve been doing this for a while, you won’t have much hesitation in going for the right type of garden bird feeders and you might even be able to teach me a thing or two. If you are new to birding though, you’re probably wondering how you will be able to choose the right bird feeder for your garden. Well, there are a few things to consider but I will list them here to make it easier for you to work through them.

But just before I do that, if you don’t really want to go through all the fuss, or if you’d rather have the pleasure of discovering as you go along, then go ahead and get yourself one of the basic platform garden bird feeders. It’s a great one to begin with and will get you off to a great start.

However if you want to gather as much information as possible before making your choice on which garden bird feeder to buy, read on. I think the best way is to make a list of the important facts and relevant points that you should consider. So, you need to think about;

* What kinds of birds do you want to attract to your garden

* How strong is your bird feeder

* Is maintenance easy

* How much seed should it hold

* Do you live in the colder climes or the more warmer ones

* Are you on the bird migration paths

* Do you want to raccoon and squirrel proof your bird feeder

* How much are you willing to spend

Just to clarify the first item in the list, one of the most important questions you can ask of yourself when buying a bird feeder is what type of bird do you want to bring to your garden? This is important because your choice of feeder will always be influenced by the type of bird you want to attract.

For instance, if you’re looking to attract hummingbirds then investing in a platform garden bird feeder isn’t going to get you very far. Hummingbirds need nectar and you’ll need to get a special hummingbird feeder for them to drink from, and the same applies to orioles. Alternatively, if it’s northern cardinals you want then you’ll want to look into buying garden bird feeders that sit on the ground, or maybe you’ll need to go for suet bird feeders for any woodpeckers and others of the same kind.

You probably get the general idea, but don’t worry of you’re still wondering how on earth you’ll be able to find out which birds are in your area. That can be a fairly simple problem to overcome as any field guide for your area will almost certainly provide it, or failing that I’ve always found the internet to be a great source of information. If that doesn’t help, you could always look for information at your library or maybe even from a bird society in your area.

When you’ve gathered all the relevant details it’s just becomes a matter of narrowing it down to which particular birds you want to attract. Then you can use the same sources to find out exactly which kind of garden bird feeders your birds will prefer. Failing that, you can always ask the friendly sales person at your local pet store.

Shar Peis are survivors. DNA testing has confirmed that they are one of the world’s oldest known breeds of dog, originating in the Guangdong Province of China. Sadly, Shar Pei dogs were originally bred for dog fighting, with their loose skin and small ears making them difficult for other dogs to grasp. At one point Shar Pei were declared the most rare dog in the world, but the breed survived and is no longer considered such a rarity.

Shar Pei problem behaviors are mostly misconceptions based on the breed’s dog-fighting origins and upon the baseless belief that the Shar Pei descended from the Chow Chow, a difficult and temperamental breed. Owners who encounter problems should consult dog training books for advice. Shar Pei dogs nearly became extinct and were once declared the most rare dogs in the world. Shar Pei dogs are survivors, though, and the breed is no longer considered a rarity.

Shar Pei dogs are sweet, lovable dogs that were also trained to work as watchdogs and guardians, protecting livestock from predators. The Shar Pei may look intimidating because it has been bred to wear a frown on its face; however, most Shar Peis are friendly and loyal and make excellent pets.

It is important to socialize the Shar Pei at an early age. If a Shar Pei gets used to being around other dogs when it is a puppy, the Shar Pei will continue to get along with other dogs as it matures. Similarly, Shar Pei behavior problems with cats and children can be avoided if the dog is exposed to cats and children when it is a young puppy. A Shar Pei who grows up with cats and kids will play well with them as an adult dog.

Shar Peis are generally a calm, easygoing breed. They are confident dogs that need the leadership of a self-assured handler. The Shar Pei may refuse commands from children or other family members whom the dog perceives as being lower in the pecking order of the pack, but these problems can be overcome with training and reinforcement. Some dog breeds can be hard to housebreak and have housebreaking problems even into adulthood. Shar Peis, however, are very clean and, once they are old enough to control their bodily functions, are extremely unlikely to urinate or defecate inside the house.

Some Shar Pei owners complain that their dogs bark to excess, no doubt because of the breed’s origin as a vigilant watchdog and guardian. Shar Pei dogs have a tendency to bark at strangers who approach or newcomers who enter the family home. These problems, like other Shar Pei problem behavior, can almost always be overcome with patient, consistent discipline. Dog training books are highly recommended as aids for training the Shar Pei.

The breed has been known to steal food left out on kitchen tables and countertops. This mischievous behavior can usually be resolved if the owner controls access to the kitchen, allowing the Shar Pei in the kitchen only when the owner is there to supervise.

Most dogs need regular exercise, and the Shar Pei is no exception. The breed is quite active indoors, so it does not need the exhausting romps and fetch sessions that some high-strung dogs and retrievers need. In fact, the Shar Pei have a tendency to overheat, and owners should be careful not to exhaust the dogs while playing outdoors, especially in hot weather. Considering the Shar Pei’s origins as a dog forced to fight to the death, and rising from near-extinction, the Shar Pei’s survival and emergence as a faithful companion and family pet is indeed remarkable.

With enough research, you can understand from Bulldog information what sort of personality that your Bulldog puppy will have as a puppy and as it matures. You can use this Bulldog information to choose a suitable name for your Bulldog puppy. Even though all Bulldog puppies are frisky, your Bulldog may grow into a serious or happy-go-lucky adult dog. You will want to choose a good name that can easily reflect your Bulldog’s personality. The best name will be a name that you can feel comfortable using anywhere that you go.

Your Bulldog wants to be in your company and you should give your Bulldog a name that will be suitable for your intelligent canine friend and that you will feel comfortable using in a public area.

You can give your Bulldog a household name that is different from its official or pedigree name. There are usually one, two or more names in a pedigree name and your personal name can be completely different from the pedigree name. You, family members and friends can use the personal Bulldog name.

The tone in which you say a word is key to your puppy’s understanding of your meaning behind the words that you say. The sound of the word is an important clue. Your Bulldog’s name should be clearly his or her name, which can be heard and understood by your Bulldog, especially at a distance. The personal name of your Bulldog puppy should be short and not have more than one or two syllables. A short name is easier to remember, to distinguish from other words and can attract your dog’s attention right away.

Your Bulldog puppy will have to be able to hear its name and separate it from the other noises around it in order to respond to its name. You can make it easier for your Bulldog puppy to hear and understand its name by choosing a short name that is not longer than two syllables.

Bulldog information makes it clear that you should not give Bulldog puppies a name that rhymes or is similar with any command that you give to your dog. You should also avoid a name that rhymes or is similar to another name that is used in the household. If you use a name that too closely resembles someone else’s name, the dog can get confused about it.

Easy to understand and distinguish letters should be used as the first letter of names for Bulldog puppies. This makes it easier to hear the sound from the moment that you say the Bulldog puppy’s name. Hard consonants, such as D, K and T, are the letters that should begin your Bulldog puppy’s name because they can get your dog’s attention even at a distance.

By understanding your Bulldog’s personality, you can give your dog a name that will reflect your feelings for your Bulldog puppy.

The Boston Terrier, nicknamed The American Gentleman, is the first dog breed to be developed in America. They were bred specifically to be companion dogs to human beings. However, their ancestors were fighting dogs, including their original type of the rare breed the Olde English Bulldogges. This ancient breed was thought to have been created from crossing the English Bulldog and the long-gone English White Terrier.

Dogs were already well established in North America by the time the very first European settlers arrived. However, anything having to do with the Native Americans was seen as shocking, savage and unfamiliar. So the Native American dogs, along with their owners, were ostracized from new America. Boston was one of the biggest shipping towns in New America, and still had close ties to Europe. Therefore, the Boston Terrier came from predominately European bulldog lines.

There were dogs already in North America living with the Native Americans, but they were not the kind of dogs the European colonists were used to. Also, the Native American dogs were still half-wild and independent. The young country of America, although proud of their American-ness, also yearned for some of the comforts of the old country. One of these comforts was for a companion dog based on Bulldog stock.

Hooper’s Judge looked a lot different from today’s Boston Terriers. The only Boston Terrier information we have of him is written descriptions. He was thought to be over thirty pounds, a solid dark brindle color except for a white blaze down the nose. His head was more round like an English Bulldog. He established a breed called the Old English Bulldogge (which has gone through several spellings). The breed still exists today, but it is very rare.

The Boston dog breeders first developed the Old English Bulldogge, which is a far larger dog of solid colors and a round head. The founding father of the Boston Terrier is considered to be the English import Hooper’s Judge, which was bought by Richard C. Hooper of Boston in 1870.

Smaller dogs were favored and kept in the breeding program. The Boston Terrier became a familiar sight in the fashionable homes of the North East as early as 1889.

The breed was considered highly desirable by anyone with a bit of money by 1889. By 1893, the Boston Terrier was a recognized breed in the American Kennel Club. In 1870, the first Boston Terrier was allowed to show. The first breed standard to be passed that made the Boston Terrier as we know him today was drafted in 1900.

Despite all of the generations of fighting dogs in him, a Boston Terrier is more inclined to run away than pick a fight.
